Prima Bakeries has unveiled an extension to its shop in Scorrier, Cornwall

Due to increased demand, Prima Bakeries has unveiled an extension to its shop in Scorrier, Cornwall, allowing bakery lovers to get their fill of sweet and savoury goodies.

The bakery shop, located just off the main A30 dual carriageway, opened the “Homebake Hub” during the pandemic in 2020, which saw huge demand for frozen pasties that just hasn’t stopped. The hub was destroyed by a storm in 2021 but thanks to the new £60,000 extension, visitors to the shop can now get all their pre-baked and bake-your-own items in one place. New items include a Vegan Chicken Pasty and a Salted Caramel Belgian Bun.

Mark Norton, Managing Director of Prima Bakeries commented: “It’s no secret that the last few years have provided huge challenges, but also great opportunities. For us, the shop extension at Scorrier is very much a reflection of consumer demand – Prima sales grew by 25% in 2021, as well as growing staff headcount by 14%, despite continued Covid issues. We feel very proud of the team behind the scenes who’ve made this happen, and look forward to welcoming back existing customers, as well as new faces to the new-look, bigger store, which is over 70% bigger than before. Looking forward to the rest of 2022, we’re on track for another great year with sales already up 23% in January across the group and we hope to achieve 10% growth across the year. With these numbers, coupled with the shop expansion, we’re helping local families by employing more local people and we will continue to support our community with initiatives such as the discounted ‘bake your own’ pasty offers.”

He continues: “Despite the cost of the new shop extension, our promise to stay competitive on price is a key priority and we hope to be able to keep our prices the same, despite pressures from suppliers, to allow our customers to have the very best pasties and bakery items, at the very best price.”

Originally established in 1978 by the Buist family, Prima Bakeries is now owned by Mark & Lynne Norton. Ross Buist, the company’s Operations Director is now the third generation to bake at Prima and ensures that all the products are made to the very highest quality and flavour each day.

Together with Cornish Premier Pasties, a 100% owned subsidiary of Prima, the group is the 4th largest manufacturer of Cornish pasties in the world.
