Free events to help tourism businesses in Cornwall

Businesses operating in the tourism and hospitality industry in Cornwall are being encouraged to sign up to take part in a series of free learning events, both online and in-person, that take place during Visit Cornwall’s Tourism Fortnight this month.

Visit Cornwall will be hosting four events to provide tourism and hospitality businesses with specific topic sessions to help with preparations for and making the most of the year ahead. Each event will feature a selection of specialist guest speakers and delegates can put forward specific questions to them in advance.

The subjects the events will cover include coping with increased costs in 2022 and beyond, where to find business support, overcoming staffing challenges, sustainability issues, and embracing digital marketing.

Malcolm Bell, chief executive of Visit Cornwall, said: “The last two years have been a roller coaster ride for the tourism and hospitality sector in Cornwall. It looks like 2022 will be another ‘interesting year’ with businesses facing inflationary pressures, our guests having to cope with the cost-of-living crisis, as well as overseas competition being fully operating as can be seen by the number of holiday adverts on our screens, 24/7. Visit Cornwall is delighted to be able to run a series of key events, thanks to support from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub, to help businesses to be as prepared as they can be for the challenges, but also the opportunities, facing us.”

The programme has been crafted to fit in with busy schedules to give as many people as possible the opportunity to attend the events. Two of the events will be held online which will make it possible for participants to dip into the relevant session or invest in the whole event.

The events are all free of charge to attend and are open to all, you do not have to be a member of Visit Cornwall to participate, but pre-booking via Eventbrite is essential.

Refreshments will be provided on arrival and during the live events, lunch will also be provided free of charge and there will be the opportunity to network. Seating will be suitably spaced in the well-ventilated venues.

The events scheduled are:

  • Wednesday 23rd March: Business Operations 10.00am to 4.00pm
Venue: Lanhydrock Hotel, Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin, PL30 5AQ.
  • Monday 28th March: Future Markets and Growth Opportunities 10.00am to 3.00pm.

  • Tuesday 29th March: Digital Marketing Day 10.00am – 4.00pm
