The holiday complex based at the foot of Glastonbury Tor has added a stunning new build to its 16 acre farm. The 50 seater restaurant is alongside a farm shop selling local produce including meat and produce from the Middlewick Farm.
This is a new addition after the success of the Spa at Middlewick, which was added in 2021. The café also provides the food for the day spa guests who come to enjoy the wonderful spa facilities at the farm. With 13 cottages, glamping and cabins that sleep up to 52 people, The Middlewick continues to be a popular place for visitors to Glastonbury to stay, spa and eat.
The café and farm shop was funded partly by a European Grant through the Rural Developments Programme for England. The grant enabled owners Jill and Jonathan Barker to expand their business and create another 10 jobs for the Glastonbury area. It also has helped to create revenue for local producers as well as help expand the visitor economy in the Glastonbury Tor area.
The Barkers are still optimistic about the tourism industry and have plans to expand even further with the building of a new 8 bedroom group accommodation that is fully accessible, with 2 disabled bedrooms and a lift. This building is due for completion in the summer of 2023 and will allow for the occupancy of The Middlewick to be increased to 70 people across 37 bedrooms.
“With international visitors and groups now starting to return to Glastonbury, the hard work and spending over the past 2 years will hopefully start paying off for us. Glastonbury is a very unique area and will always attract day trippers as well as overnight visitors. The Middlewick is now in a great place to take advantage of this and continue to grow.” Jill Barker.
