South West hospitality group donating to charity this Black Friday

In a bid to give back, the Southwest family-owned hospitality group Philema Hospitality Management, which comprises Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa and The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, and Boringdon Hall Hotel & Gaia Spa in Devon are turning Black Friday on its head as they pledge to donate a percentage of sales to Charity, rather than offering reduced rates on bookings and profiting from additional sales.

Traditionally November 25th marks the start of Christmas shopping season, and sees companies offer discounted rates for products and services in the bid to increase sales. Instead Philema Hospitality Management are taking 10% of sales from hotel room bookings made on 25th November and donating to the company’s chosen charities, The Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, and the Renal Unit at Treliske Hospital.

Housed at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, The Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre is available to anyone affected by cancer (at any stage of the illness), offering a cosy and comfortable environment for patients, relatives, and carers to share concerns, ask questions and access a range of support. The Mustard Tree Cancer Support Centre is staffed by Macmillan professionals and trained volunteers, some of whom have had a personal experience with cancer.

In a continued partnership, Philema Hospitality Management already offers a complimentary treatment, day pass and lunch for two patients per month at the award-winning Gaia Spa Boringdon in Plymouth, 10% off the GAIA Affinity Experience (a tailored treatment for those living with a medical condition) and 25% off GAIA Skincare products for Mustard Tree staff.

On the generous donation, Shaen Milward Mustard Tree Manager says “On behalf of the Mustard Tree I would like to thank Philema Hospitality Management, and its customers, for supporting the work of the Mustard Tree Cancer Support Centre here at Derriford Hospital. I hope it will be helpful to know that all the money collected goes directly into support and care of local people whose lives have been touched by Cancer. There have been lots of developments in the centre recently, as we begin to get back to normal post-covid; without charitable donations, much of this would not be possible. Thank you.”

Caring for people with kidney diseases, the Renal Unit based at Treliske Hospital in Truro, Cornwall boasts a team of highly experienced and dedicated consultants and specialist renal nurses, support works and dieticians. Services include dialysis, kidney transplants and supporting patients manage their disease. The unit also aids patients with kidney stones, systemic vasculitis, electrolyte abnormalities or people who have injured their kidneys.
