Italian dessert a sweet festive success for Gloucestershire couple

Over 1000 Panettone bread desserts have already been ordered from Cirencester and Stroud’s Non Solo Pasta for this Christmas.

The authentic Italian food company run by married, Matteo Conte and Clara Cardillo, have taken in a record number of orders for the hand made Italian sweetbread. Originally from Milan and usually prepared and enjoyed for Christmas and New Year in Italy its popularity in the UK has soured and, in this region, many will be tucking into the version made by the fair hand of Clara and Matteo.

The couple run the Five Valleys indoor market’s Italian food stall, Non Solo Pasta, alongside a commercial kitchen for catering, as well as Terra, the youngest of their projects, an Italian restaurant in Sandersons in Stroud. They also sell their brand of authentic Italian food at the Farmers Market in Cirencester as well as other markets in the area.

Their panettone was a recent winner of the My Guild Great Taste Award. It was not their only winner with their puttanesca pasta sauce picked up a two-star rating.

The Great Taste judging panel is made up of more than 500 food and drink professionals, spanning chefs, recipe creators, critics, journalists, buyers and broadcasters, with the 2022 line-up including head buyers from prestigious department stores Selfridges and Fortnum and Mason, as well as restaurateurs, food writers and more. The South West region, which includes Gloucestershire, won a total of 529 awards after being blind-tasted by over 500 judges – achieving 29 three-star awards, 159 two-star awards and 341 one-star awards.

Clara said: “Every year the orders increase, more and more are trying alternatives to the Christmas Pudding or simply adding dishes from around the world to the festive table.”

Non Solo Pasta can be found at www.nonsolopasta.co.uk.
