Cirencester restauranteurs expand to new venue

Cirencester’s town centre wine bar and restaurant Sam & Jak is adding The Plough Inn to their business.

Local lads Sam Edwards and Jak Doggett only opened their eponymous restaurant in 2021 while also already operating a busy outside catering company but have now decided to enter the pub game, taking on the lease of the Arkell’s Brewery pub, located just outside of the town in Stratton.

Sam, 33 and Jak, 29, have made a name for themselves in the town centre with their modern food offering, classic cocktails and theme night dining. They are now going to try their hands at running a pub, promising classic pub dining with a smokey offering on the side.

“We cannot wait to get in there and get started,” Jak said. “We have both always wanted a more traditional offering but we assure you it will have our style and flavour all over it. The garden and field that come with the venue can be used for a possible foodie or music festival in 2023.”

Sam had previously worked and trained at The Manor House in Moreton-in-Marsh while both went onto to work with renowned chef – Bob Parkinson of Bibendum, London, a Michelin Bib Gourmand winner.

The pair have, in the last couple of years become fathers and both families live in Stratton. This is something that is important to Sam (Edwards), who will be designing the menus for the Arkell’s site. He said: “Pubs are about community, and always have been, somewhere to gather with friends or family, we want to continue this tradition. Everyone knows The Plough and with the help of Arkell’s we hope to keep it thriving.”

The Plough will be opening on Friday 2nd December for a special launch night with all invited. It will open officially on Monday 5th December from 5.00pm, drinks only, the same applies to Tuesdays while from Wednesday the kitchen will be open 12.00pm-3.00pm and 5.00pm-9.00pm. The bar will be open until 11.00pm on these days.
