A leading holiday home company in Cornwall is named amongst the UK’s best travel companies, at an internationally recognised annual travel awards – and receives a Gold Green Tourism Award, all in one week.
In a double celebration, Cornish Gems bring home their fourth British Travel Award – winning Bronze in the ‘Best Company for UK Holiday Home Rentals’ category, at the prestigious 2021/2022 British Travel Awards (BTAs). The winners were revealed at a glamorous awards ceremony, in London on November 29th, 2022.
The BTA achievement comes only days after Cornish Gems achieved the Gold Green Tourism accolade. To receive two highly acclaimed national awards, in just one week is a first for the independent Cornish company.
Cornish Gems offer a handpicked collection of around 200 properties across the county and employ around 100 local people, with a head-office in Truro – and are renowned as the go-to specialists for exceptional holidays in Cornwall.
Considered the largest and most influential, independent poll of consumer opinion – The BTAs are the benchmark for excellence in the travel industry. Over the last five years an average of 312,000 individuals have annually registered votes, to recognise the best businesses operating in the travel sector.
This latest BTA win, is the fifth award achieved by Cornish Gems in 2022 – who also achieved a coveted Green Tourism Award, Gold at the Cornwall Tourism Awards, were shortlisted in the Cornwall Sustainability Awards, and named nationally in the Top 20 Best Places to Work in Travel earlier this year.
The Gold Green Tourism award is one of the most prestigious and well-recognised sustainability awards in the industry. The Green Tourism Award application process is a rigorous evaluation of all elements of a business relating to sustainable, green tourism – assessing responsible business practices right through to carbon impact.
Fiona Ross, Green Tourism Accessor, said: “Cornish Gems has done an excellent job in achieving the Green Tourism Gold award following on from their previous silver award. The team has displayed an excellent understanding of sustainability and awareness of opportunities and challenges associated with running a responsible business committed to promoting greener tourism. The small operation is engaged and committed with systems and training in place as well as a commitment to further improvement. Many congratulations to the team on achieving the Gold award.”
Cornish Gems co-founder, Nadia Macer-Wright says: “To win two awards in a week is just so exciting! Especially as these diverse awards endorse both our commitment to sustainable tourism and to providing the best holiday experience to our customers, by implementing greener ways of doing business. Julianne and I know these incredible national accolades are without a doubt due to our brilliant team, and we feel enormously grateful and privileged for all their hard work and to have so many supporters, including our wonderful property owners to loyal customers.”
The Cornish business, founded by Julianne Shelton and Nadia Macer-Wright, is also this year celebrating its 15th anniversary. Since launching in 2007 Cornish Gems is now a leading independent holiday home company in the UK. For further information about Cornish Gems, please visit www.cornishgems.com
