A new fish and chip shop is opening in place of the former Lockside cafe at Bristol’s Cumberland Basin.
Husband and wife team Daniel and Joie Rosser have taken over the site for Noah’s seafood restaurant, which is due to open in April. The venue was put up for sale last July after 60 years of trading.
It opened in 1963 as a transport cafe and was famous for featuring in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses as Sid’s Cafe. Previous owner Gary Brunton, part of the family who ran it for almost 20 years, said he was overwhelmed by customer messages when the closure was announced.
When it reopens as Noah’s, named after the couple’s young son, it will have approximately 60 covers inside. The Rosser family also run The Scallop Shell in Bath, which opened in 2015. This represents the first standalone restaurant for the husband-and-wife duo.
Daniel said: “We’ve had our sights set on a Bristol location for a while and we’re so excited to bring our fresh fish and seafood concept to this incredible venue with such a long history. As soon as we saw the building and the views out over the water to Clifton Suspension Bridge, we knew it would be perfect.
“It’s a huge investment for us but we’re so pleased with how it’s coming along so far. We don’t want to give too much away but can’t wait for the local community to come and experience it for themselves.”
Daniel will be overseeing the kitchen, and Joie the front of house. Noah’s will open six days a week, with the menu including classic fish and chips, sharing plates, grilled fish, fruits de mer and more.
