Lost and Grounded Brewery, based in St Annes, Bristol, won one of the top gold awards at the 2023 World Beer Cup, confusingly also known as the ‘Olympics of Beer’.
The US competition is the largest in the world, with over 100 beer-style categories and 10,213 entries from 2,376 breweries in 51 countries. Winners were selected by a panel of 272 beer judges and announced during a ceremony on 10th May at the Music City Center, Nashville, USA.
Their flagship Keller Pils lager won gold in the Kellerbier/Zwickelbier beer-style category against international lagers. The 4.8% unfiltered lager is brewed using “Pilsner malt from Germany and Belgium and combined with three traditional hop varieties – Magnum, Perle and Hallertauer Mittelfruh – to produce a clean, unfiltered, Hop Bitter Lager Beer.”
Co-founder of the brewery, Alex Troncoso, said: “We are absolutely buzzing to have won a gold award at this year’s World Beer Cup. Keller Pils is the beer that started our journey in Bristol, and over the last six years, we’ve stuck to our original vision. We are so proud of our entire team for gaining this recognition.”
“The World Beer Cup brings together the finest brewers and beers from around the globe and celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and passion for great beer,” said Chris Williams, World Beer Cup competition director. “Receiving a World Beer Cup award is a testament to quality and innovation, and we commend this year’s winners for setting the bar higher than ever.”
Lost and Grounded were established in July 2016. Their website says: “We are particularly fascinated by the precision of German brewing and the idiosyncratic nature of Belgian beers, and we chose the brewhouse of our dreams that could help us make these wonders of fermentation.”
