Hattiers Rum welcomes Tom Surgey as a ‘Hattiers Rum Ambassador’

B Corp certified Hattiers Rum is delighted to announce the appointment of well-known and respected drinks communicator, Tom Surgey, as a ‘Hattiers Rum Ambassador’, after working together on various projects for some time.

Hattiers Rum specialises in sourcing and blending fine aged rums from over 25 distilleries across the world. Each rum is chosen by the Hattiers team to fit, lift or complement each other before being expertly blended at their Devon blending house and distillery with pure Dartmoor water. With a fresh take on the traditional art of rum blending, only the finest rums boasting a remarkable depth of flavour are hand selected to create their versatile and accessible premium blends.

Regarded as one of the industry’s most-engaging figures in the UK hospitality industry, drinks presenter and writer Tom, has a wealth of experience across all drinks categories as well as food and the hospitality trade itself. Having carved out a unique space with his upbeat, high energy and authentically passionate style, Tom is known as a lover of great drinks and an ambassador for the industry and the people within it, promoting the benefits and a love for great food and drink.

In his new role as a Hattiers Rum Ambassador, Tom will work closely with the Hattiers team to promote the brand and its portfolio of premium rums, which includes Eminence Blended Aged White Rum, Egremont Premium Reserve Rum and Resolute Navy Strength Rum.

Commenting on the partnership, Tom says: “I am a genuine and authentic long-time fan of Hattiers. These are truly extraordinary rums. Philip and the team have created a highly-conscientious, modern brand that is leading today’s ‘rum revolution’ by every conceivable measure. It’s a total joy to be able to support as an ambassador – I look forward to raising a glass together soon!”

Philip Everett-Lyons, founder and CEO of Hattiers Rum, adds: “I am delighted that Tom has joined us as a Hattiers Ambassador. Tom’s exceptional palate, overflowing passion and encyclopedic knowledge of fine liquids, alongside his ability to convey this passion in a way that is charismatic and relatable, is truly inspiring.” Philip continues: “Having worked with some of the world’s finest brands and top hospitality establishments, Tom is the ideal fit as a Hattiers’ Ambassador. He possesses the perfect combination of experience between our sustainable B Corp culture and prestige liquid to champion Hattiers and all that we do.”

About Hattiers Rum
Established in 2017, Hattiers Rum was the brainchild of entrepreneur Philip Everett-Lyons after he and his wife moved back home to the beautiful South Hams in Devon to start a family and create a business. As rum and fine spirit lovers, yacht racers and fuelled by a passion for life at sea, Hattiers Rum was born. Hattiers Rum is named after Philip’s eldest daughter Henrietta or ‘Hetty’ for short, which developed into Hattiers. Everything at Hattiers has a meaning and a story behind it, from the name Hattiers itself to the names they’ve given to their rums and the symbols you see on their labels.

As the UK’s first B Corp certified rum, it’s fair to say Hattiers’ doesn’t do what they do because it is different, but because it is better and their uncompromising approach to quality and sustainability is something they’re extremely proud of. Plastic-free from day one, with a carbon negative workforce, Hattiers is an ethical brand who care about the integrity of their rum while supporting their workers, communities and investing in local environmental projects.

The Hattiers Rum range is available at hattiers.com as well as Waitrose & Partners, Harvey Nichols, Master of Malt, Fortnum & Mason, The Whisky Exchange, Enotria & Coe and Drink Finder.

About Tom Surgey
Tom works closely and regularly with many of the most established names in the industry, has a strong peer group and network within the trade and trade media and continues to be close with the successful challenger drinks consultancy Glass Half Full, of which he co-founded in 2020.

Alongside his work, Tom is the co-founder of the not-for-profit and charitable foundation Table Talk Sussex, which puts chefs in primary schools to teach food education. He was also a founding steering committee member for The Drinks Trust’s The Drinks Community, of which Hattiers’ founder Philip is a mentor himself.
