Two leading Westcountry drinks brands named as Finalists in National BOOM Awards

The Soil Association Certification BOOM Awards, the UK’s only organic awards, have announced their highly anticipated 2023 shortlist with two outstanding South Devon producers emerging as top contenders. Buckfastleigh’s Luscombe and Ivybridge’s Owens Coffee have both been recognised for their unwavering commitment to excellence in the organic sector as finalists in the ‘Best of Organic Non-Alcoholic Drinks’ category.

Luscombe’s Hot Ginger Beer and Owens Coffee’s Jabulani, Romero and Tunki are all up against the finest the organic non-alcoholic drinks market has to offer, having made it through to the final nine. The BOOM Awards celebrate those who are working hard to produce the best possible organic products, as well as recognising innovation and highlighting the extra level of care and attention organic producers have to take to produce high-quality food and drink meeting rigorous organic standards.

Having already faced a thorough judging process by a professional panel of industry judges, the category winner will be announced at the BOOM Awards’ ceremony on the 5th July, in Bristol, the home of the Soil Association.

Discussing being named a BOOM Awards finalist, Paul Stevenson, Head of Marketing at Luscombe, commented; “We’re absolutely delighted. We’re passionate about creating the best-tasting organic soft drinks and as the first drinks brand in the UK to gain organic accreditation from the Soil Association, we are committed to organic and its principles.”

Paul continues; “Now more than ever, consumers are prioritising the quality and sustainability of the drinks they choose. As a business, we’re dedicated to sourcing the finest organic fruits from trusted growers across the world, take pride in the exceptional taste of all our drinks and work tirelessly to minimise our environmental impact. Being shortlisted for the BOOM Awards reinforces our devotion to organic practices.”

Lorraine Bridden, managing director at Owens Coffee, said; “Recognition by the prestigious awards is a testament to our unwavering loyalty to sourcing and roasting the finest organic and Fairtrade coffee beans and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, ethical practices and community engagement. We’re thrilled and honoured to reach the shortlist for the BOOM Awards for our Jabulani, Romero and Tunki coffee and extremely excited and proud to be part of the awards and all that they celebrate.”

The Soil Association’s Certification Commercial and Marketing Director, Alex Cullen added: “We are delighted to see Luscombe and Owens Coffee both named as finalists. The Best of Organic Non-Alcoholic Drinks category celebrates the best products and the greatest new hopes for the future.” Alex continues: “Farming is the major global driver of emissions and habitat destruction – even larger than aviation. Organic production offers vital solutions for climate and nature, which is why we’re so excited to see producers like Luscombe and Owens Coffee getting excellent results. It’s this drive to innovate that means the organic sector remains resilient despite market challenges.”

Famed for their exceptional tasting, premium organic fruit juices, crushes, bubblies, tonic waters and mixers as well as a traditional Devon cider, Luscombe is a proud Royal Warrant Holder. Since 1975, they have been crafting beautiful organic, lovingly made drinks on a farm in Devon with their founder and owner, Gabriel David, having become celebrated for his pursuit of perfection and uncompromising approach to quality. Luscombe carefully blends the finest organic fruits sourced from the world’s best farmers and growers, complemented by their own source of Dartmoor spring water.

Leading Devon coffee roaster, Owens Coffee, has long been impressing coffee lovers across the country with their dedication to sourcing and roasting organic and Fairtrade coffee beans. With a passion for outstanding quality and taste, Owens Coffee has become synonymous with delivering a truly exceptional coffee experience. Their steadfast focus on sustainability, ethical practices and community engagement ensures that every cup of Owens Coffee tells a unique story. They take great pride in offering a 100% Fairtrade range of coffees, all of which are certified organic by the Soil Association and have previously been awarded a BOOM Award.
