The George Inn to reopen after refurbishment and renovation

The George Inn, Norton St Philip has reopened, having been closed for six weeks for essential improvements and preservation works. The Grade I-listed 14th Century Tudor inn, often cited as one of the oldest in England and with a history dating back to 1397, has been sympathetically updated, respecting and highlighting the building’s many original and unique features.

The bar has been relocated to the former dining area creating a more spacious and welcoming lounge. Existing features have been enhanced with period wallpapers, heritage colour washes in blues, greens and neutrals and heavy fabric upholstery. A collection of existing and antique tables and chairs create a variety of cosy eating and drinking areas. Through into the dining room, where the hero is the original imposing stone fireplace, there are existing pews, padded bench seating, a refreshed timber floor and circular rugs.

The eight newly decorated bedrooms have everything you would expect for a luxurious night’s stay, each with its own distinct style and personality… super comfy beds, period furniture and styling and high-end bathrooms. Personal touches such as Roberts radios and Bramley toiletries add to the luxurious feel.

In addition to the pub’s existing function room ‘The Dungeon’, a further two areas have been created, providing three stylish multi-functional event spaces, ideal for get-togethers, celebrations, meetings, and community events.

Jayson Perfect, Group Managing Director, Pubs & Inns, Liberation Group says: “As custodians of this incredible building we’ve worked closely with preservation officers to ensure all the improvements we’ve made have been sympathetically carried out. In addition to cosmetic enhancements, we’ve also carried out some repairs and maintenance which will ensure The George Inn is here for many years to come. The interior is still familiar but we’ve carefully highlighted key features to really make the uniqueness of the building sing. The George Inn is now even more beautiful and welcoming with a wonderful new food offering for locals and visitors to enjoy.”

Outside, the large garden has been brought up to date with the addition of bench seating, pergolas, plenty of tables and raised planters, creating a beautifully stylish alfresco drinking and dining area sure to be popular all year round.

The George reopens just in time for its Christmas offering, with a stunning 3-course Festive Menu, new seasonal sharing boards, and party bookings available from November 7th, not forgetting Christmas Day itself.
