Meet Charlotte and Angus from Sea Sisters Cannery in West Dorset. They have two little girls who, when in March 2020 the Covid Pandemic hit us all for the first time and the hospitality industry closed down, were both under two years old. Due to restrictions, food shopping was difficult but they had their own fortnightly ritual. It involved buying a lot of store cupboard goods that they could make family meals from, notably tinned fish. However, none of these were canned in England or used British fish.
This sparked the beginning of their canned food journey and Sea Sisters was born. They chose the brand name because their two girls demonstrated the immeasurable importance of sisterhood.
Together, Charlotte and Angus have passionately learned a craft. Their packaging is 100% recyclable. They are careful to stay clear of plastics in their production process and are constantly rethinking ways in which they can transport fish from boats to their cannery without the use of materials that will impact the planet.

Last month, Taste of the West presented Sea Sisters Cannery with the Champion Fish Award 2023 for their canned Cuttlefish in Ink. The product then went on to be crowned Taste of the West’s Reserve Supreme Champion Product for 2023.
Charlotte and Angus commented: “Taking on the project of becoming England’s only fish cannery was enormous for us. Our intention was to become masters of our craft and produce a very high quality, ethical can of fish. Something we didn’t see possible unless we did it ourselves using our own recipes. To receive an award for the food we have produced means the world to us. It feels so great to get recognition from Taste of the West Awards. The team have been so kind, informative and clearly work very hard to make these awards happen. We are over the moon, thank you.”
