The Alverton in Truro has welcomed back a familiar face as General Manager. Paul Ricketts, who was previously overseeing The Alverton between 2014 and 2018, has been appointed General Manager of the hotel.
With a career spanning over 30 years, Paul is no stranger to hospitality. Having held roles in a number of high-profile establishments, most recently the Penventon Park Hotel, The Falmouth Hotel and Retallack Resort, he left The Alverton initially to go travelling in 2018. Paul has now returned to The Alverton and is responsible for overseeing hotel’s overall operations, ensuring guest satisfaction, and maximising profitability. His key duties include financial management and budget control, staff leadership, overseeing sales and marketing, quality control, and strategic planning. Paul also plays a crucial role in maintaining a positive work environment, meeting The Alverton’s high quality standards, and implementing long-term strategies for the hotel’s future success.
Ben Young, Managing Director at The Alverton’s parent group, The Cornwall Hotel Collection, said: “It’s brilliant to welcome Paul back to The Alverton. His experience is unparalleled, which matched with great leadership skills, means that he’s a great role model for our team. I’m looking forward to seeing Paul settle into his new role, as we head towards a busy festive season, and beyond!”
Commenting on his appointment, Paul Ricketts added: “When Ben [Young] approached me about returning to The Alverton, it was a no brainer. There is something about the hotel that I couldn’t find elsewhere, and I was so happy to see that the special feeling I had five years ago, when I left to go travelling with my son, was still here. From the moment I walked back into the historic Georgian mansion, I knew I had made the right decision to return, and now that my son is old enough to travel on his own and does not want his dad tagging along, I’m not going anywhere! I’m really looking forward to developing the offering of The Alverton further, in line with the demand we see, as well as seeing those familiar faces, and welcoming new guests too.”
Recently, The Alverton and its sister hotel, The Greenbank in Falmouth donated £8,000 to two local charities. The recipients were voted on by the volunteer committee from each hotel and Pendennis Leisure CIO in Falmouth was gifted £3,000, and £5,000 was donated to Penn An Dre Resident’s Association (PADRA) in Truro.
Nestled on the outskirts of the city centre, The Alverton has stood on its peaceful hillside setting since 1830. The grade II listed building was once a convent and has a rich and fascinating history. Today, the hotel offers laidback luxury and tranquillity with inspiring architecture and verdant grounds. With original features interwoven within the 53 bedrooms, The Alverton offers tradition, romance and home comforts.
