Shanty Spirit

Shanty Spirit are a small batch distillery based a stone’s throw from the sea in Poole, Dorset. They produce unique coastally inspired spirits that showcase the flavours found in British seaweeds, using ‘Flo’, a custom made vacuum still built in Scotland, that requires less energy to run than a traditional hot still.

Shanty songs are about connecting people and helping them work together to greater effect. With the strap-line “Song of The Sea” the brand’s aim is to give back to projects that are concerned with protecting our oceans. With in-house production and a bonded warehouse licence, they are ready to launch the brand and products to a wider marketplace. The accolades speak for themselves so let’s meet the drinks…

The evocative small batch Botanical Vodka offers you an experience like no other: an expertly crafted intricate blend of five hand-foraged British seaweeds creates stunning undercurrents of umami flavour. This subtle depth of flavour is further enhanced by ripples of Wasabi, Galangal, Yuzu, Bergamot and Sea Buckthorn dancing on the surface. Each botanical is separately vacuum distilled to extract fresher flavours. Finally they add a pinch of Dorset sea salt.

As complex as a gin, this vodka adds delicious new dimensions to a host of classic serves including Bloody Marys, Martinis, Mules and tonics, as well as opportunities for exciting new creations.

Last year Taste of the West awarded it GOLD in their annual Product Awards, which sits nicely alongside their IWSC Gold Award. It’s currently stocked at some prestigious Michelin star and AA double rosette restaurants across the South West; it pairs beautifully with fish and seafood and has been used to cure salmon, or neat to accompany oysters or smoked mackerel for example.

“Shanty has to be the best new product I have tasted for a long time. I am already looking to pair a chilled glass of Shanty with oysters, even using when curing salmon with seaweed and sea salt.” Alex Aitken, Chef Patron for The Jetty

“I was very impressed by this Seaweed Vodka yesterday. Sweet, spicy but also delicate and complex.” John Wright, forager and author for the River Cottage Handbook series.

“We were blown away by the vodka. We’re mixing it with Cremant to make a pre-dinner cocktail.” Hannah, The Open Kitchen X A Passion For Seafood

Customer testimonials:
“Probably the best vodka in the market; the unique flavours of the seaweed botanicals make it an easy spirit to drink neat“; “Beautifully smooth“; “A unique tasting spirit without a rival“.

The Seaweed Spiced Rum is an exquisite blend of Barbadian and South American rums, barrel aged over oak, offering a luxurious depth of flavour with subtle bourbon undertones. Gently spiced, with fathoms of umami, alongside fresh top notes and a hint of sweetness. This smooth and beautifully balanced rum contains fourteen meticulously selected botanicals. Four hand-foraged British seaweeds, including Pepper Dulse, “The Truffle of the Sea”, raw Dorset honey, cacao & ginger. The rest remain a secret! Sip over ice and be guided on a complex sensory voyage to the treasures of the deep. Absolutely delicious neat or on the rocks as a sipping rum; alternatively great in the mix with classics such as a Dark and Stormy or Cuba Libre. It also pairs wonderfully with chocolate.

“I have to say it was brilliant. Fresh, lightly spiced and smooth. If you haven’t tried these spirits, go to shantyspirit.com and introduce yourself to Hugh – tell him I sent you!” Neil Carter, GM of The Green House luxury boutique hotel in Bournemouth, home of the AA 2 Rosettes awarded Arbour Restaurant

Customer testimonials:
“One of the best spiced rums I have tasted, and I’ve tried many from around the world!“; “It’s a delicious rum on its own over ice, and also great in a hot chocolate.”; “A good quality spiced rum in the unusual bottle that looks great in my cabinet.”
