Introducing Cornwall’s first coastal aparthotel – with community at its heart. On the edge of Newquay – 5 minutes’ walk from Porth beach and looking out over the ocean from its clifftop location – SeaSpace is rewriting the rulebook for downtime, uptime, free time and holiday time on the north Cornish coast.
With bookings now open for stays from October 2024, work to transform the former Sands Resort Hotel into SeaSpace is gathering pace. This oceanside open-house aparthotel is gearing up to host coast-loving travellers and like-minded locals, young families and remote workers, all looking to tap into laidback coastal living – be it for a few hours, days or weeks.
Putting freedom front and centre for a new way to stay and play, SeaSpace blends design-led comfort with a laidback, independent spirit. Staying guests can book into one of 56 self-catering spaces, with studios and 2 or 3-bedroom apartments to suit single travellers, couples, friends, families and groups. Each space has been designed for open plan living, socialising, family time, working, chilling or the whole lot – with a fully kitted-out kitchen, dining/ work table and lounge area. A host will be on hand to help with everything from practical queries to local tips.
In shared spaces the emphasis is on connection and community. A café and deli in the vibrant lobby area will serve up freshly baked bread, pastries, barista coffee, breakfast, lunch and snacks, while the bar and restaurant will offer woodfired pizzas and small plates for sharing, as well as cocktails, wine and beers, with a side of killer ocean views. All designed for you to eat in, take to your apartment, find a spot in the grounds to settle or stroll down to the beach. And if you’re cooking in and need everyday essentials last minute, a self-service larder will see you right, with local dairy milk, oat milk, butter, salt and more – open 24/7.
A reimagined 19-metre pool (influenced by 1920s Miami style) and children’s pool; refurbed gym and busy fitness programme – all with a choice of membership options – will give SeaSpace guests and community a choice of ways to get their pulses flying, before downtime rolls in and the hot tub or terrace calls. Those keen to take to the waves can head to Watergate Bay, 1.5 miles up the road – one of the most consistent surfing beaches in the area – where Wavehunters offers a range of lessons and experiences for all abilities, including full surf kit hire, children’s lessons and adaptive surfing facilities.
On top of all that, in an exciting new partnership UK Padel will bring the burgeoning, super-sociable sport padel tennis to the SeaSpace grounds with a new five court padel tennis club. This will be the biggest padel club to date in Devon and Cornwall with three doubles courts and two singles courts. Two of the doubles courts will be under cutting-edge retractable roofs, allowing year-round play, and the two singles courts will be the first of their kind in the Southwest. Both locals and staying guests will be able to play throughout the year.
Says SeaSpace CEO, Ben Harper: “SeaSpace will be stepping into new territory, moving away from the conventional hotel and self-catering accommodation models to put freedom and community first – without compromising on quality. We’re enjoying breathing new life into the space, and look forward to creating a place where everyone feels like they belong.”
Neighbourhood happenings will fuel SeaSpace spirit, featuring a calendar of events, including live music, pop-ups, art expos, BBQs and cook-ups, all designed to draw people together. Kids will love letting off steam in the outdoor maze, while play and garden areas will keep them active and curious.
Opening up workaway options for digital nomads and multitasking families, guests will find bright set-ups in each apartment ideal for head-down working. Communal spaces will also offer a change of scene for remote work or informal catch ups, with great coffee on tap and clifftop breathers outside.
Bookings are now open for stays from October 2024, with memberships for locals – including gym, swim and fitness classes as well as separate memberships for padel tennis – to follow soon.
