Take a culinary trip across the globe with Exeter’s first FREE Street Food Festival

Bring your appetite as the first Exeter Street Food Festival is set to take over Northernhay Gardens this weekend! The free event will bring delicious street food, refreshing drinks and live entertainment to the city centre for three days of family-friendly fun. Opening their doors from Friday 14th – Sunday 16th June you’ll want to bring your friends, family, children and dogs for a culinary trip across the globe.

They’ve packed the weekend with some of the finest street food traders from near and far. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy something totally unique as all 20 of their traders offer a different cuisine! You could feast on anything from Moroccan to Mexican, Uzbek to Afghan and everything in between. They’ll have traders who can cater to all diets including gluten-free, vegan and those who are partial to a sweet treat or two.

Street Food Warehouse are the team behind some of the top street food festivals across the Welsh and South West coasts. From Devon to Swansea and Plymouth to Tenby, they have cemented their reputation by hosting successful events for over 7 years. Now they are bringing their #SummerOfStreetFood tour to Exeter for 3 days of foodie heaven! Here’s what they had to say about the festival:

“We’ve wanted to host more festivals in the South West as the people of Devon have proved they have a huge appetite for delicious, high-quality food. For the past few years, our festivals have taken us to Newquay, Plymouth and North Devon and it only feels right Exeter enjoys a slice of the action. Vendors apply from across the UK to trade at our events allowing us to share new and exciting cuisines and provide a platform for up-and-coming talents on the food scene. Visitors can tuck into fan favourites or discover something entirely new, all whilst enjoying a refreshing draft craft beer and some live music in the heart of the city! Exeter Street Food Festival will be the perfect place to spend your weekend with friends and family enjoying delicious food and good vibes. We hope to get a good turnout in our first year so that we can come back again and again. Don’t forget it’ll also be Father’s Day weekend, so why not treat Dad or Grandad to some delicious food and a pint? Get ready for full bellies and great memories!”

Street Food Warehouse have dropped a little teaser of a couple of the traders they have lined up, including some fantastic South-West-based talent! Local lads Gourmet Street Kitchen are here to make your cheesy dreams come true with decadent, fresh-to-order mac and cheese with a twist. We’ve got our eyes on a portion of their ‘Hot & Handsome’ packed with homemade harissa, chorizo and caramelised onions. Feeling spicy? South West-based Miz Street Food will showcase a stunning selection of Mexican tacos. Dive into slow-cooked Yucatan-style pork or achiote roasted cauliflower for a flavour sensation sure to tickle every taste bud. Sweet tooth? Dawlish-based The Local Scoop will be on hand to satisfy that sweet treat craving. Their award-winning handmade ice creams come in a selection of classic flavours or you could go bold and choose something a little different from their specials menu. Because a day out filled with delicious food isn’t complete without a scoop (or two!) of the good stuff.

With all that delicious food, you might build up quite a thirst! As the official beer sponsors of the event, award-winning brewery Lost and Grounded will be on hand with their refreshing lager and IPA. We’re envisioning a sunny day in Northernhay, live music paired with your favourite street food dish, washed down with a crisp pint of their Helles lager, awarded Beer of the Year in 2022! The festival is family-friendly at heart, welcoming children of all ages and well-behaved dogs. Their line-up of entertainment even includes magicians, circus workshops and fae painting for the little ones.

You’ll need a ticket to enter, but fear not – tickets are free and can be booked online here! Street Food Warehouse prides itself on a continued commitment to sustainability, which is why this year they’re introducing reusable cups at the bar. Simply pay a one-off fee of £2 with your first drinks order to receive your very own branded reusable cup. You’ll use this cup throughout your visit and it’s yours to take home as a souvenir from a great day out. This helps them significantly reduce their single-use plastic and helps keep the festival cleaner for all to enjoy.

Exeter Street Food Festival are also encouraging visitors to use public transport where possible to help further reduce their carbon footprint. A spokesperson for the event said: “Northernhay Gardens is just a stone’s throw away from Exeter Central Station, so it would be fantastic if our hungry customers could make use of the Great Western Railway service to travel to and from the event! We’re keen to minimise our environmental impact in as many ways as possible so introducing reusable cups and utilising public transport are just some of the ways we hope to build on this.”

It’s set to be a fantastic weekend opening at 2 pm – 11 pm on Friday 14th and 11 am – 11 pm on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June. What’s a better way to enjoy summer than with friends and family, indulging in exciting street food, with a nice cold beverage in your hand? Book your free tickets at www.exeterstreetfoodfestival.co.uk today and kickstart your summer off right with Exeter Street Food Festival!
