Bays Brewery launch lemon lager with zest for life

Family-run Bays Brewery in Paignton has added a brand-new beer to its local line-up called Madgull Lemon Lager, a vibrant and refreshing small-batch special inspired by the iconic seagull.

The latest beer offering brewed in the heart of Torbay pairs a punchy citrus flavour with a hint of lime and grapefruit notes aimed at taking drinkers’ tastebuds to new heights. Taking its name from Torbay’s iconic seagull, the launch of Madgull has been perfectly timed for Summer, with the lemon lager the perfect accompaniment to sundowner sessions on the beach. Available in 330ml bottles, the latest beer offering has been described as a “passionate project” by the three brothers who founded Torbay-based Bays Brewery 17 years ago.

Bays Brewery Director, Mark Salmon, said: “As a family-run brewery that has been crafting beers the Devon way for almost two decades, we’ve always wanted to launch a beer that bottles up our passion for the place we are fortunate enough to call ‘home’. And what says Torbay more than the iconic seagull – a winged-resident synonymous with seaside life. Love them or hate them, nothing says ‘Summer’ more than a seagull soaring above the shoreline with a stolen chip, and Madgull Lemon Lager shares in its zest for life.”

The lively lemon lager is available to buy on the Bays online shop, with thirsty folk also able to get their hands on Madgull at select bars, restaurants and pubs in Torbay as part of a soft launch.

Bays Brewery Head Brewer, Will Freeland, said: “Madgull Lemon Lager is a bright, punchy beer that’s easy to drink, with a refreshing citrus kick balanced by a smooth malt backbone, making it an ideal companion for outdoor activities and warm-weather gatherings. Whether you’re relaxing at the beach or just looking for a refreshing drink after a long day, Madgull Lemon Lager offers a zesty, invigorating experience and we can’t wait to see it in the pint glasses of thirsty punters in Torbay and beyond.”

The lemon lager is the latest addition to the brewery’s award-winning range of established ales and lagers, all of which are proudly crafted to perfection the Devon way at its Paignton brewery.

Throughout 2024, Bays is also supporting a number of top Devon charities with the release of four limited-edition charity beers, all of which aim to give something back to the local community.
