Cirencester’s BBQ and smokehouse, Cheeky Swine is to host a day of live music and BBQ food to raise money for the town’s Phoenix Festival.
On Saturday 13th July, the event, named SwineFest, will see a host of musicians play all day at Arkell’s Brewery’s The Bees Knees, the pub where Cheeky Swine is based, in the town’s Watermoor area. The free one day event will be topped off with plenty of food from Cheeky itself and local supplier – CotsWild.
Neil Johnston is the proprietor and head chef of Cheeky Swine; it was his idea to host the SwineFest. “I have always wanted to do a music and food festival at the pub,” he said. “It is only our first years so we are starting with a one-day event and hope to grow it in the years to come, inviting smoked food producers from across the country.
“We have a variety of genres, there is a country set from Rhiannon to kick things off about 2pm then an acoustic set, and in the evening music from Juke Box James, followed by a sundowner session from a local DJ. If anyone else wants to get involved, please give us a shout, we are open to ideas.”
The Phoenix Festival is a volunteer community music and arts festival that offers two days of music, dance and family fun in Cirencester’s Abby Grounds. It is an unpaid event for the community of Cirencester and its surrounding villages. It runs this year on 24th and 25th of August.
Neil added: “The Phoenix Festival means so much to the town and is one of the few free music festivals left in the UK so wanted to do our bit to keep it going. You can make a donation on the day and we will be giving them a share of our profits.”
