Headland Director hailed as industry titan in Boutique Hotelier Power List

Headland Family Director Veryan Palmer has been recognised as an ‘aspirational industry figure driving real change in the hospitality sector’ in this year’s influential Boutique Hotelier Power List.

The list, which is compiled by industry experts, provides a rundown of the key hospitality professionals who are inspiring their businesses to hit new heights. Veryan is among a group of 50 individuals and teams identified as ‘movers and shakers’ across the hospitality sector in 2024.

Commenting on her inclusion in the Power List, Boutique Hotelier said: “She always puts her team first and ensuring they are given the best opportunity to thrive is her priority.”

Earlier this year Veryan was among just 10 industry professionals, and the only woman, to receive Master Innholder status from the Worshipful Company of Innholders. Last month she was also part of the judging panel for the Independent Hotel of the Year awards at the luxurious South Place Hotel in London.

Passionate about providing opportunities for local youngsters to excel in the hospitality industry, Veryan has championed a number of educational and vocational initiatives designed to support and encourage people from diverse backgrounds and abilities into the hospitality profession. The Headland is a leading inclusive employer, encouraging people with additional needs to participate in extended work experience programmes. The hotel also has close links with local schools and colleges providing paid summer placement schemes for 14–16 year-olds.

“I was surprised and delighted to have been included in this list which includes so many hugely influential industry leaders,” said Veryan. “It’s particularly heartening that our ongoing commitment to supporting local people was highlighted. Massive congratulations have to go to the wonderful Headland team who support everyone in our wonderful industry, day after day, and show them how amazing hospitality can be,” she added.

Veryan’s family’s connection with The Headland began in 1979, when her parents bought the iconic Victorian hotel rescuing it from decades of decline and disrepair. She became a director in 2020 and has continued to support its journey in becoming a multi-award-winning destination hotel, complete with 86 luxury bedrooms, 39 five-star cottages, a five-bubble-rated spa, a six-pool AquaClub, four restaurants, and, arguably some of the best sea views in Cornwall.

Most recently, the property unveiled its flagship dining room, Restaurant Renmor, which provides the very best of local produce in a relaxed, informal set against a stunning ocean backdrop.
