Sustain Farm Shop & Café, Wiltshire

Farm shops up and down the country are promoting sustainability on a daily basis but the new farm shop at Freckles Farm on the outskirts of Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire has gone one step further and put it in their name – Sustain Farm Shop & Café.

Open since Spring, this good-looking farm shop has promised to fill its shelves with local goodness and source exciting products from the vibrant community on its doorstep.

There are delicious pastries, freshly baked bloomers and sourdough from the Marks Cotswold Bakery and on Saturdays you can treat yourself to oozing, stickily-delicious doughnuts from Pipp & Co – cinnamon and brown sugar or mixed berry to whet your appetite. Other sweet treats include a local range of ice cream, but as the weather warms up be sure to get up early to secure your wild strawberry or dark chocolate favourite!

The shelves are packed with fresh fruit and vegetables and the meat counter is mouth-wateringly good. Everything you could desire for a summer BBQ or a homely roast. They have recently introduced a “home-grown beef box” with the finest cuts from their own cows ready to fill your fridge and freezer and keep your protein up. If you fancy a tipple, there are shelves of local beers and ciders or frothy coffee to warm you up. The home-made sausage rolls are a real crowd pleaser too, ready to snaffle on the premises in the corner café or take home with you (or eat in the car!). Let’s be honest, a sausage roll rarely stays in its bag for very long!

The team at Sustain are gradually adding more and more services to their offering. When the baby goats arrived on the farm, they offered “baby goat feeding” sessions to the public which proved popular, as have the monthly car boot sales which they are hosting. Currently once a month, the farm shop is embracing the reuse and recycle culture and encouraging locals to join in on the field next to the shop. Keep an eye on their social media for future dates.

We wish Sustain Farm Shop & Café every success with their new venture. Find out more about them at their website and follow on Facebook and Instagram.
