West Dorset based, Baboo Gelato is delighted to announce that they have won a Three Star Award from the Guild of Fine Foods in the annual Great Taste Awards for their much loved Double Chocolate Gelato.
The Three Star award was only given to 1.9% of products out of a massive 13,672 submitted in 2024. Annie Hanbury, owner and head gelatiere said: “It’s always been a firm favourite in our kiosks, popular with adults and children alike, so we have always thought it was a winner, but it’s lovely to get such a prestigious national award.” She explains what makes Baboo Gelato’s Double Chocolate Gelato so special: “We use a rich organic milk from a farm a few miles from our laboratory, and a luxurious West Country double cream. We also buy the very best Valrhona French chocolate. We then run ribbons of dark Belgian chocolate through it to double up the chocolate taste.”
The judges at Great Taste said: “A glorious gelato, superbly well made and allowing the chocolate to shine brightly without muffling its character. The little crunch from the stracciatella is wonderful against the smooth gelato. Clean and fresh yet rich and indulgent … extremely clever … spot on.”
They also won two stars for their Mango Sorbet and for their Raspberry Sorbet respectively, and one star each for their Passionfruit Sorbet, and Raspberry Gelato. In total it brings their haul to 44 stars from Great Taste.
Baboo Gelato’s Double Chocolate is available from their kiosks in Weymouth, West Bay, and Lyme Regis, Felicity’s Farm Shop trailer in Morcombelake, and their café in Swanage. It is also available from a rapidly growing number of good farm shops, restaurants, and tourist attractions. And it is available for home delivery nationwide – order at their website.
