Falmouth-based, The Greenbank Hotel raises over £4,000 for local Cornish charities

The Greenbank, Falmouth’s oldest hotel, has raised a total of £4,010 through hosting two exciting summer events, alongside a weekly pub quiz in the adjoining pub, The Working Boat.

On 27th July the team saw around 30 teams from all over Falmouth and the surrounding areas take part in the annual Dragon Boat Race just off the shores of the hotel, with a portion of food and drink sales throughout the day donated to local men’s mental health charity, Man Down. With Westover Surgery taking the 2024 title in a nail-biting final, support from the local community brought an overwhelming feeling of togetherness to the day, and a total of £1,114 was raised.

The hotel’s Pink Wig Pre-party kicked off this year’s Falmouth Week in style, with hundreds of pink wig wearers gathering in The Greenbank’s marquee before their march through Falmouth, led by the iconic Betty Stogs and the Falmouth Marine band. Now in its 12th year, the Pink Wig night is not only an incredible way to raise awareness around breast cancer, but has allowed for thousands of pounds to be raised to support both vital equipment as well as research into earlier diagnosis and better treatments for breast cancer. The team at The Greenbank, who also wore pink wigs for the special occasion, raised £1,142.40 by donating a portion of food sales as well as 50% of cocktail sales from their special Pink Wig cocktail menu, created exclusively for the event.

“This is an incredibly important cause,” shared Matt Garland, The Greenbank’s hotel manager, “and we are really proud that not only were we able to be a part of this amazing local event, but we’re also helping the Pink Wig team raise the much-needed funds to continue supporting those in need and raise awareness for this cause.”

In the meantime, the hotel’s adjoining pub, The Working Boat, has been hosting weekly quizzes every Sunday in aid of a different cause each month. From St Petrocs and Parkinsons UK to Treliske’s Neonatal unit and the Falmouth Community Football Club, a total of £1,232 has been raised so far for the local community.

Alongside a donation from The Cornwall Hotel Collection after hosting fish and chip Fridays in aid of the RNLI throughout August at The Working Boat, The Alverton Hotel and The Falmouth Hotel, a total of £4,010 has been raised for charity so far, and the year’s not over yet…
