Thunderflower Distillery is taking major strides towards sustainability with two new initiatives at its distillery: the installation of a solar power system and the adoption of water-saving technology.
Supported by a grant from the Mid Devon Green Enterprise Scheme, Thunderflower has installed 34 roof-mounted solar panels generating 14kW of electricity, along with a 13kW battery array to store excess energy. This solar energy powers the distillation process, sending surplus power back to the grid, making Thunderflower’s operations 100% renewable.
In tandem, the distillery has implemented the Aqua Pro closed-loop chiller system, significantly reducing water usage. By recirculating cooling water during the distillation process, Thunderflower minimizes waste, contributing to more eco-friendly production.
“We’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint,” said Anicca O’Nions, co-founder of Thunderflower Gin. “Our solar power and water-saving measures are key steps on our journey to become a carbon-neutral business.”
These sustainability efforts are part of Thunderflower’s ongoing mission to improve every aspect of its operations, from energy efficiency to eco-conscious packaging, ensuring a cleaner, greener future for craft distilling.
