Harbour House owners hook new restaurant

The owners of Flushing’s Harbour House have purchased the highly popular Hooked on the Rocks at Swanpool Beach in Falmouth, Cornwall. The acting agent on the sale was Jeremey Beaching of SPC Property who was also the agent responsible for the sale of Harbour House in 2022.

Hooked on the Rocks joins the successful group of establishments owned and run by Tamara Costin and William Speed. The couple will now work closely with Hooked’s Head Chef Jack Frame and General Manager Katie Hemmings to continue to build the success of the iconic seaside restaurant.

Hooked on the Rocks is built into the cliffside that overlooks the picturesque Swanpool Beach and nature reserve, on the outskirts of Falmouth. The menu centres around local, sustainably sourced seafood and features crab and lobster caught just eight miles down the coast, Falmouth Bay scallops, and daily fish specials from Newlyn market. William and Tamara already had a key connection to the Hooked on the Rocks building given that William’s grandmother (Wendy Shepherd) worked there in the 1960s when it was called Swanpool Beach Café and was owned by the local council. William’s aunt (Jenny Shepherd) also worked there in the ‘90s when it was called Café Mozambique.

Now, the couple are excited to continue the legacy of this special place with their own unique vision. Tamara Costin says: “We fell in love with this epic location and we’re so pleased to join Jack, Katie and the team in pushing Hooked onto the next chapter. For the moment everything is business as usual and we’re looking forward to meeting all of the regular diners and customers.” William Speed says: “My mother’s side of the family are all from Falmouth. I spent much of my childhood playing on Swanpool Beach so when we got the call from Jeremy we couldn’t say no.”

The couple also have their two renowned Devon sites. Beach House is situated on South Milton Sands in the South Hams and is a food critic-acclaimed, cult loved, seafood-driven dining destination. School House, situated on the Flete Estate at Mothecombe, also in the South Hams, is a place for long brunches, lingering lunches and shared feasting events.

In summer 2023 the couple opened their first Cornish outpost – Harbour House – situated on the waterfront in the pretty village of Flushing. Almost immediately Harbour House gained a place in the Michelin Guide and has been regularly listed as one of the top dining destinations in Cornwall in the national media and guides.
