Grove Farm Shop, Stitchcombe, Wiltshire

Just to the north of Savernake Forest in the Kennet Valley, a few miles from Marlborough, lies Grove Farm. It is an all-grass farm with small fields bound by semi-ancient woodland and is home to a pedigree herd of Hereford cattle and some beautiful pigs who forage in the woodland. The meat from these grass-reared animals is tender and delicious and is available to all from the small, farm shop that is found on site.

The farm, proud of its meat, offers wonderful selections of steaks, beef joints and burgers, meat boxes, sausages, bacon, pork, lamb and even venison, all freshly butchered and packaged. The sausages have flavours such as “Welsh Dragon” and “Pork and Black Pudding” and the pork steaks can be Chinese-flavoured or plain. Chickens are available from a local producer and can be spatchcocked with garlic or even made into chicken kievs, and they look fabulous!

Although meat is their bread and butter(!), the farm also offers an array of tempting deli goodies. If you’re looking for something quick and easy for lunch then choose from warm, homecooked quiches, pasties or pies with a side helping of freshly made potato salad and coleslaw.

There are free range eggs from a neighbouring farm and various Savernake juices from elderflower cordial to spiced apple cup, organic dairy products and salad dressings and sauces. And, if you have a sweet tooth, shut your eyes when walking past the cake cabinet which holds vanilla custard tarts, millionaire’s shortbread or peach crumble depending on which day you visit.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday, this is a fabulous little farm shop, full of mouth-watering produce that broadcasts its provenance. Well worth a visit!

You can find out more about them and follow along with their news on Facebook.
