Milton Keynes is the most successful opening ever for Cornish Bakery

Founder-led Cornish Bakery has further added to its fast-growth credentials with the ‘runaway’ success of the new Milton Keynes bakery. The independent company’s 65th bakery has surpassed all expectations, taking a record breaking £40K+ within its first week of trading, and going straight to the Number 1 spot of all bakeries in the contemporary city.

At 200 sq metres the new Milton Keynes bakery is the largest opening for the independent company this year, occupying a key cornerstone location within the premium, style-driven centre:mk shopping destination.

The bakery opened to unprecedented demand providing an immediately positive challenge for the centre:mk team, as the lengthy Cornish Bakery queues were blocking the main flow of the shopping centre. Both teams worked swiftly to devise a new roped ‘airport style’ queuing system outside of the bakery, to ensure smooth, calm and efficient operations for both customers and staff.

An average score of 4.5 has already been achieved on Trip Advisor, with customers constantly commenting on fresh pastries, pasties full of flavour, tasty cappuccinos and the attitude of the friendly and helpful staff.

Managing Director Mat Finch says, “We all knew that Milton Keynes, with its significant scale of space, was going to be a successful opening for us. But even we weren’t quite expecting the extreme runaway success of the first week alone. We immediately reacted to the positive challenge of too many customers, working swiftly with the centre:mk team to devise our first roped queueing system. Our first week sales were well in excess of £40,000 – yet another record breaking result in the record breaking year that has seen us surpass sales of over £1 million per week, and enter the Top 100 of all fast-growth retail companies in the UK.”

The Milton Keynes opening comes on the back of a run of successful Cornish Bakery openings in Taunton, Chelmsford and Winchester, all of which have also been exceeding expectations and significant sales targets. The company is in the final stages of the build and renovation work for the next Cornish Bakery which will open in Cirencester in January. Cornish Bakery MD Mat Finch has already announced that he has a strong pipeline of new locations and properties to open throughout 2025, as he adjusts the company’s ambition to triple in size in the near future.
