Sharp’s Brewing Company and their acclaimed food friends Bango Kitchen are set to kick-off the ‘month of love’ in truly delicious style, coupling up for a one-night culinary beer and food-matched journey at the Buttermarket, Redruth’s ‘coolest comeback’ location.
The Buttermarket opened in November of last year, founded on the notion of creativity expressed through food. The venue, located right next to Redruth train station, has swiftly established itself as the place for the best up-and-coming culinary talents to showcase their work.

A laid-back playground for foodies and culture vultures alike, Sharp’s Brewing Co and Bango Kitchen are set to host the first Silent Bistro takeover of the indoor Buttermarket courtyard space on Wednesday 5th February. Howard Sellers and Nick Archer, the two chefs behind both Bango Kitchen and The Shellfish Pig, will be crafting a four-course small plate Asian street food inspired menu from their incredible repertoire. And Sharp’s, the UK leaders in food and beer matching, will be providing a bespoke four-course beer and cider-matched menu which is likely to include a few favourites and a unique Sharp’s ‘hoptail.’ All will be enjoyed against the musical backdrop of funk and soul beats, brought by regular collaborator with all involved parties, DJ Atomic Dog.

Bango Kitchen recently made it onto Michelin-starred chef Paul Ainsworth’s 5 favourite restaurants in Cornwall shortlist and The Guardian also included Bango in its roundup of the country’s best coastal eateries last year. Their regular offering at the Buttermarket includes dumplings, ramen and much-loved Bao Buns, plus tasty specials curated from local produce. For the collaborative takeover, they’ll be exploring flavour combinations designed to accompany the Sharp’s beers and cider.
From its humble beginnings in Rock in 1994 to becoming the largest brewer of cask beer in the South West, Sharp’s Brewing Co has always been synonymous with quality and innovation. Its flagship beer, Doom Bar, remains a favourite across the UK, while its portfolio boasts over 150 international brewing awards.

For more than a decade, Sharp’s has been on a mission to reset people’s perceptions of the ways to experience and enjoy beer. The brewery and its team aim to educate and inspire both chefs and diners about the mouth-watering fusion of beer and food, bringing people new knowledge about the passion, craftsmanship and ingredients that go into every pint.
Nick Archer of Bango Kitchen says: “We had phenomenal feedback from a beer and food matched journey that we created with Sharp’s at Trebah Garden a couple of years back. And now we’ve settled into our new home within the exceptional Buttermarket in Redruth, we can’t wait to take the place over with our friends at Sharp’s and provide a whole evening of flavourful immersions for our shared guests. It’s going to be utterly brilliant.”
Sam Lyne, Beer Sommelier at Sharp’s Brewing Co says: “Both Howard and Nick have the same sort of unending passion for what they create and serve up as our talented, world-class brewers at Sharp’s. When you combine those two elements with a spirit of taste innovation in a four-course menu such as the one we’re all working on for the Buttermarket takeover, you can be sure our guests will be in for a most memorable culinary journey. We can’t wait to be the amongst the first to lead with a takeover at Cornwall’s new creative foodie location.”
