Greendale and Food Drink Devon host free Love Local Food Festival at Exeter Castle

A date for the diary, Love Local Food Festival by Greendale, in collaboration with Food Drink Devon, is returning to Exeter Castle on Saturday 9th August from 10am – 6pm. Free to enter and set in the heart of Exeter, the festival promises a day of delicious food and drink, live entertainment and family fun, all while celebrating the very best of Devon’s food and drink.

Hosted by the award-winning Greendale Farm Shop, the festival brings together over 80 local producers, offering visitors the chance to taste and purchase some of Devon’s finest food and drink. From artisan breads and freshly roasted coffee to small-batch spirits and luxury chocolates, the festival is a true celebration of the region.

Food Drink Devon is partnering with Greendale for the event, with a number of its members present including Bar Buoy, Barbers Bean to Bar, Boo Chi Kombucha, Devon Microgreens, Devon Rum Co., Huxbear Vineyard, Powderkeg Brewery, Sharpham Dairy, Shepherd Shack, South Devon Chilli Farm, The Udder Stuff, West Country Olives as well as many more.

Greendale will also be firing up the BBQ and serving fresh seafood platters alongside tasty treats from its bakery and deli. Exeter Castle’s courtyard will come alive with the aromas of Devon’s favourite street-food vendors, alongside a variety of food stalls to browse for gifts and goods to take home.

Tom Lomas, Head of Retail and Hospitality at Greendale Farm Shop says about the festival: “After the huge success of our first festival last summer, we’re thrilled to bring the Love Local Food Festival back to Exeter. It’s Greendale’s way of celebrating the incredible growers, producers and makers across the West Country with visitors able to enjoy the best local food and drink. There’ll also be plenty of foodie experiences, live music, a traditional bar, al fresco cocktails, children’s activities plus a morning of talks and demos hosted by Food Drink Devon.”

Greg Parsons, Chair of Food Drink Devon, adds: “Food Drink Devon is proud to support the Love Local Food Festival by Greendale once again. As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we’re committed to raising the profile of Devon’s food and drink and a free to enter festival like this makes it possible for everyone to experience and celebrate the amazing local produce our region has to offer.”

Deep in the heart of the East Devon countryside, surrounded by acres of farmland, is award-winning Greendale Farm Shop on Sidmouth Road (EX5 2JU). It takes pride in selling meat from their own farmland and fish from their fleet of fishing boats and believes it’s incredibly important to support brilliant local businesses in the West Country. In 2022 it started a ’30 under 30’ campaign, showcasing fantastic food and drink produced within 30 miles of Greendale Farm Shop. With the campaign now stronger than ever, the Love Local Food Festival is its way of bringing these unique brands to the heart of Exeter.

Membership organisation, Food Drink Devon, represents Devon’s finest food and drink producers, retailers, hospitality venues and related businesses with a focus on quality, sustainability and provenance. With 370 members, the Community Interest Company (CIC) is built from the ground up to serve and benefit its community, the members of Food Drink Devon.
