Sustainable wine delivery service launches in Falmouth

A new e-bike wine delivery service is now available in Falmouth and Penryn, just in time for summer. Thirsty wine lovers in the area can now order online for home delivery, on the same or following day, with deliveries taking place Wednesday to Saturday, 12 to 6pm.

Scarlet Wines, which has been serving the St Ives area with a wide selection of hand-picked wines since 2010, launched the delivery service this month and is now able to supply wine wholesale to hospitality businesses in the area as part of the expansion.

Jon Keast, Founder of Scarlet Wines, explained the decision to expand to a second area: “We’re a home-grown Cornish business which prides itself on doing things differently. We love the vibe here and, alongside our family and friends, we gravitate to Falmouth for the amazing food scene, great nights out, and sense of community. We know our sustainability ethos and the fact that we are a small indie business resonates here.”

There is a selection of wines available to order via the website, but Jon and his son Alex – ‘chief wine peddler’ for Falmouth and Penryn – are happy to be flexible and help customers out with genuine recommendations.

Alex says: “As a small, friendly operation we’re always happy to help customers choose wines taking into account their preferences and budget. We’ve already started deliveries and people are loving having their wines turn up on their doorstep, delivered at a convenient time using our stylish and sustainable e-bike!”

The initial small selection of wines, which will be added to and evolve with the seasons, has been chosen specifically with summer gatherings and food pairings in mind.

As Jon explains: “We lean towards small producers, who make wines with regional character and have strong sustainability credentials. We’ve tasted all of them and can vouch for their deliciousness. Vegan and organic wines are clearly identified on the website too.”

Jon and Alex are also keen to talk to fellow independent businesses – neighbourhood cafes, bistros and bars in the Falmouth and Penryn area – who are interested in working with a like-minded wine supplier.

As Jon says: “We’re the antithesis of a stuffy wine merchant, or a big national supplier where you get no face-to-face contact. We like to build relationships, can offer smaller regular deliveries, and help out with building wine lists and events. Interested owners should email me direct on jon@scarlet-wines.co.uk to arrange an informal chat, probably over a glass of wine or two!”
