Butcombe’s George Inn wins AA Inn of the Year

The George Inn, Norton St Philip in Somerset – a Butcombe Boutique Inn – was named ‘AA Inn of the Year’ at the AA’s flagship Hospitality Awards 2025 last night (22nd September 2025). In July the inn, with a history dating as far back as 1397, won ‘AA Inn of the Year, England’ at its annual Bed and Breakfast Awards, but last night was crowned Best Inn in the UK, overall.

The star-studded event, which took place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House and hosted by television and radio personality Vernon Kay, celebrated the UK’s most exceptional hotels, restaurants, inns, and B&Bs. Awards were presented across 18 categories, including AA Chefs’ Chef of the Year, AA Inn of the Year, AA Spa Hotel of the Year, and the all-new AA Rising Star Award.

The George Inn, a Grade I-listed 14th Century Tudor inn, often cited as one of the oldest in England, was recently welcomed into Butcombe Boutique Inns – Butcombe Group’s premium collection created to give guests a unique, personalised, and home from home experience in some of the most desirable locations in the UK.

Linda Johnson, General Manager, The George Inn says: “To say I’m delighted would be an understatement! To win AA Inn of the Year, especially against such stiff competition, pays testament to my amazing team for all their hard work, dedication, and care. As a Butcombe Boutique Inn, it’s vital that we all do our utmost to ensure our guests have the very best experience and hospitality possible, so this prestigious accolade goes to each and every one of them.”

Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media, praised the UK’s hospitality sector for its resilience and innovative spirit in 2025, saying: “This celebration highlights the passion, creativity and resilience that define UK hospitality. The teams have turned challenges into opportunities, inspiring us with their innovation and dedication. Congratulations to all winners, nominees and new Rosette holders – your achievements deserve recognition today and set a shining example for the future of our industry.”
