Salcombe Gin School celebrates Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice award

Salcombe Gin School has been recognised in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2025, placing it among the Top 10% of ‘Things to Do’ worldwide. The world’s largest travel guidance platform, Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards are based on genuine feedback from anyone who has visited and left a first-hand review on Tripadvisor over a 12-month period.

A lesson at Salcombe Gin School gives guests a rare opportunity to step into the role of a distiller and discover the art of gin distillation at Salcombe Distilling Co.’s waterside distillery on Island Street in Salcombe.

Jason Nickels, Head Distiller at Salcombe Distilling Co. says: “This award is a true reflection of the passion and dedication of our team and we’re incredibly grateful to every guest who has joined us at Salcombe Gin School and shared their experiences with others online. Since opening our doors in 2017, we’ve welcomed more than 20,000 gin enthusiasts who have created over 12,000 bottles, each helping us to shape what has become a truly memorable experience.”

Jason continues: “It’s always a real pleasure to host our gin school sessions and to see the enjoyment people get from learning the art of distillation and creating their very own gin. We’re especially proud to have so many guests return time and time again, with our most loyal visitors joining us an incredible seven times!”

At Salcombe Gin School visitors take charge of a beautiful traditional mini copper pot still to develop, distil, bottle and label their 70cl bottle of gin under the guidance of Salcombe’s expert distillers. Each immersive three-hour lesson provides an unforgettable hands-on experience with lessons also including a tour of the distillery, a complimentary ‘Start Point & Tonic’ and ‘Rosé & Tonic’ plus the chance to enjoy an additional G&T of their own gin back at the distillery bar, where Salcombe Gin’s team add tonic and garnish to complement each unique recipe.

“Congratulations to Salcombe Gin School on its recognition in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2025,” said Kristen Dalton, President, Tripadvisor. “Ranking among the top percentage of businesses globally means you have made such a memorable impact on your visitors that many of them took time to go online and leave a glowing review about their experience. We hope this recognition continues to drive business to you in 2025 and beyond.”

Nestled among traditional boatbuilders on Island Street in Salcombe, Salcombe Distilling Co. handcrafts its multi-award-winning Salcombe Gin at its picturesque waterside distillery, one of the only gin distilleries in the world directly accessible by boat. Inspired by the coastal vitality of Salcombe and its rich shipbuilding heritage, every drop of Salcombe Gin is a celebration of coastal adventure. A Salcombe Gin School lesson is three hours long and runs on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons at 2pm, as well as Saturday mornings at 10am.
