The UK’s largest producer of mead, Lyme Bay, continues to lead the revival of the mead category with the launch of two new low-alcohol sparkling meads: Raspberry Lemonade Sparkling Mead and Strawberry & Elderflower Sparkling Mead.
Responding to growing consumer demand for lighter, natural and flavour-driven alcoholic drinks, the 3.5% ABV sparkling meads are designed to bring mead, a traditional drink of ancient origins, into casual drinking occasions.
Both new sparkling meads are underpinned by Lyme Bay’s signature Traditional Mead, handcrafted from a blend of honey and water fermented with yeast to create a smooth mead base. Raspberry Lemonade Sparkling Mead balances sweet-tart raspberries with bright citrus notes and the smooth honey character of mead, with Strawberry & Elderflower Sparkling Mead combining the freshness of strawberry juice with elderflowers for a delicately floral and refreshing profile.
“We’ve seen incredible growth and curiosity in the mead category over the last few years,” says Wolfgang Sieg-Hogg, Managing Director at Lyme Bay. “Our new sparkling meads are a pivotal step in bringing mead to a wider and younger audience. By pairing authentic craft and heritage with contemporary flavour profiles, we’re showing that mead can be as exciting, accessible and versatile as any modern ready-to-drink (RTD) or flavoured alcoholic beverage.”
Produced at Lyme Bay’s winery and meadery in Axminster, Devon, where over 250,000 bottles of mead are handcrafted each year, the new sparkling meads expand one of the UK’s largest and most diverse mead portfolios. Lyme Bay’s mead range includes Traditional Mead, flavoured meads such as Black Cherry, Chilli and Ginger and a Mead Liqueur.
