Restaurants, chefs and hospitality teams from across the South West have been recognised at the Trencherman’s Awards 2026.
The awards reflect a region increasingly defined by its connection to place – from coastal kitchens working closely with the day’s catch to inland dining rooms shaped by the surrounding fields and moorland. This year’s winners demonstrate a confident approach to cooking and hospitality, grounded in seasonality and consistency.
Among those recognised are Michelin-starred chef Adam Handling (Ugly Butterfly, Newquay) and fellow Great British Menu alumni Ben Palmer, Jude Kereama and Nicholas Balfe.
Jill Stein OBE, co-founder of The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, received the Award for Special Contribution, recognising her lasting influence on hospitality in the region. She received a standing ovation from the room as she accepted the award – a rare moment at the Trencherman’s Awards. “This is amazing. It means so much to me. Hospitality is where my heart lies – I recognise it’s a very difficult business to be in at times, but I love it. Fifty years!” said Jill Stein.
Abi Manning, editor of The Trencherman’s Guide, said: “The South West continues to develop a clear and confident identity in how it cooks and hosts. These awards recognise the people and places contributing to that.”
Michael Caines MBE, Chair of the Trencherman’s Committee, said: “The South West has a distinct strength in how it cooks and hosts, shaped by its connection to land, sea and season. These awards recognise the people who continue to raise the standard across the region.”
