Exeter’s Quayside has become one of the city’s go-to spots this summer, and Crave at 38 Commercial Road is one of the reasons why. The award-winning independent restaurant has opened an outdoor cocktail bar on its terrace, launched a new summer menu and confirmed a full programme of live music on Sunday evenings and Bank Holidays through to the end of August.
The outdoor bar is serving margaritas three ways: classic, spicy, and frozen, at two for £20 all day, every day, alongside Hugo Spritz and Aperol Spritz. The terrace looks out over the Quay and is open from 12pm daily, with happy hour running Sunday to Friday from 12pm to 6pm.
Alongside the bar, a new summer menu has launched featuring sharing dishes built around seasonal ingredients and local suppliers. Highlights include crispy soft shell crab with ssamjang mayo, wild Atlantic prawns with garlic, chilli and sourdough, scallops in the half shell with lime butter and a heritage tomato salad with olive, chilli dressing and basil. The C’RIB – a Rib, gochujang and pickle sub roll made in limited numbers each day – has quickly become a favourite.
“We wanted to make the most of the Quayside and give people a proper outdoor space to enjoy a drink in the sun. The new bar feels like a natural part of what Crave is all about – relaxed dining with a little bit of fun, somewhere you actually want to spend time.” commented Sameer Shetty, owner of Crave.

Crave’s live music programme runs every Sunday evening from 6pm, and on bank holiday weekends, with free entry. With artists like Conscious Club, Just Us and Alex Johnston, Crave is quickly building a reputation as one of Exeter’s go-to spots not just for food, but for a full afternoon or evening out.
It’s not just an evening spot either. With Crave’s brunch menu running every Wednesday to Sunday from 9am, visitors can start the day outside just as easily as ending it there. The menu is the kind that earns a regular following, with popular dishes including a Mumbai flatbread with bacon, eggs, mango coconut sauce and sesame; a Hangover Bun loaded with bloody mary ketchup, sausage and bomber cheese and French toast with bacon, maple, crème fraîche and brown butter. On Fridays, a free hot drink comes with any hot breakfast.
