Somerset cider lovers are being invited behind the scenes at one of the county’s most iconic producers as Sheppy’s Cider hosts a special Cheese and Cider Tour as part of British Food Fortnight.
Taking place on Friday 2 October 2026 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, the event offers visitors the chance to discover the story behind more than 200 years of cider making at Sheppy’s family-run farm in Bradford-on-Tone, near Taunton. Founded in 1816, Sheppy’s remains a sixth-generation family business and is recognised as one of the oldest cider makers in the world.
Guests will enjoy a guided tour of the cider farm, including visits to the orchards, press house and vat houses where Sheppy’s award-winning ciders are pressed, fermented and matured. The experience also includes entry to the farm’s rural life museum, where visitors can explore the history of cider making through the generations and learn more about the annual cider-making cycle.
The evening culminates in a fully tutored tasting featuring a selection of Sheppy’s award-winning Somerset ciders paired with carefully selected cheeses. Sheppy’s resident cheesemonger, Mike, will guide guests through each pairing, sharing insights into the flavours, textures and characteristics that make cider and cheese such a natural match.
Held during British Food Fortnight, the event provides a fitting celebration of the quality food and drink produced in Somerset, bringing together traditional cider making, artisan cheese and the county’s rich agricultural heritage. Whether you’re a dedicated cider enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable foodie experience, the tour promises an engaging and flavour-filled evening in the heart of the Somerset countryside.
