Café bar company Loungers has opened its second Brightside roadside restaurant site near Saltash in Cornwall.
It follows the first Brightside outside Exeter, which opened in February. The new site will open on the A38 at Trerulefoot. The former Route 38 site has been transformed with an “almost cinematic interior scheme that takes inspiration from the 1970s and 80s, caravan interiors, classic road trip movies and memories of roadside dining and holidays from a bygone era.”
The menu, which runs from “noon to night”, includes; an all-day breakfast offering featuring smashed avo toast, and granola and berry pancakes; sourdough pizzas, burgers, sunshine bowls of salad and “The Nation’s Favourites” taking in chicken katsu curry, chilli, fishcakes, ham, egg and chips, spaghetti and meatballs, and cauliflower macaroni cheese. The drinks menu includes thick shakes, sodas and juices, lemonade coolers, cocktails, beer and cider, and wine.
Alex Reilley, founder and chairman of Loungers, said: “Brightside Saltash has been a labour of love, and we can’t wait to finally welcome customers. Summer holidays are just around the corner, so we hope locals and travellers on the way down to Cornwall will enjoy our reinterpretation of roadside dining. Since launching Brightside Exeter in February, we’ve been incredibly well-received, confirming our thoughts that roadside dining needed reinvigorating and travelling shouldn’t just be about the final destination but the journey itself. Our expertise in high-quality, great value all-day dining through our other brands means we’re confident Brightside will bring proper hospitality back to roadside dining.”
Loungers are keen to take the Brightside brand national. The next launch will be at Honiton, Exter, in July, with other sites confirmed on the A1(M) in Rutland and the A11 near Thetford.
