The Crown, Tolldown, reopens after extensive refurbishment

The Crown, Tolldown, managed by Butcombe Pubs & Inns (part of Liberation Group), has reopened following an extensive refurbishment inside and out. The pub with rooms, a stone’s throw from Dyrham Park, now boasts gorgeous interiors, nine stylish bedrooms, a new private dining space and delicious new premium menus.

The 16th century pub has been given a complete makeover – lime plastered walls and paintwork have been washed in sage green, teal and blues, accentuating original beams and fireplaces. The Modern Country-inspired styling continues with period wallpapers, leather banquette seating, upholstered lounge chairs, rugs and statement wall and pendant lighting, creating a variety of cosy and elegant drinking and dining areas to choose from.

The nine bedrooms, edging the courtyard, have been beautifully refurbished and remodelled from top to bottom in a contemporary country style – premium beds with luxurious bedding, antique furniture, high end bathrooms, treats and Bramley toiletries ensure a night’s stay to remember.

The addition of a new multifunctional private dining area creates the perfect space for celebrations, get togethers, meetings and community events. Outside, the beer garden has been updated with a Mediterranean planting scheme, cedar cladding and new furniture.

Jayson Perfect, Group MD, Pubs & Inns, Liberation Group says: “We’re incredibly proud of the new look Crown and we’re delighted to be able to welcome visitors old and new once again. It’s fresh and modern without losing any of the original, cosy country charm, and we’re sure our guests will enjoy the new look and feel, alongside our fresh new award-winning food and drink offering.”

The new breakfast, lunch and supper menus focus on locally sourced produce, seasonal ingredients and elevated hearty pub and modern classics – Chorizo Scotch egg, smoked tomato aioli, Whipped Severn and Wye smoked mackerel, beetroot tartare, capers, dill, rye toast, West End Farm pork ribeye, smoked sausage cassoulet, black cabbage, harissa butter, burnt lemon and pie of the week, seasonal greens, proper gravy, a choice of mash or thick-cut chips.

On Sundays it’s all about a fabulous roast – Rump of Hereford and Angus beef, Belly of West End Farm pork, Castlemead Farm chicken or a seasonal vegetable Wellington, all served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and red wine gravy.

Behind the bar is a great selection of wine and cocktails, alongside a wide range of craft beer, real ale and cider from Butcombe’s award-winning brewery a few miles away in Bristol.

The Crown is dog-friendly, family-friendly and wheelchair accessible. More information is available at their website.
