ROSA, a new neighbourhood bar, restaurant, and mini-golf concept has launched on the North Coast – from the acclaimed team behind Newquay’s wildly popular burger restaurant, HERD.
The new food and drink venue welcomed their first guests at the end of April, has already received rave reviews, and offers a new-look watering hole, with all day dining and some good old fashioned mini-golf fun.
Taking over the former Gilmore’s site on Tower Road, the team are honouring the site’s beloved local history as a popular hangout for both residents and visitors.
Working with Cornish contractors they’ve invested substantially into the renovations to totally reimagine the 18-hole course and introduce an exciting new food and drink offering.
THE FOOD & DRINK
The delicious new menu brings together Italian and American inspired dishes – think small plates, fresh home-made pasta and pizzettas – with an Italian trattoria meets New York diner energy.
We’re talking Nocarella olives, Parm fries, aubergine parmigiana, pork ragu, pecorino cacio e pepe – plus pizzetta topped with pepperoni, mascarpone, and hot honey.
And an exceedingly good drinks line-up with a small but perfectly formed collection of cocktails – expect classics, with a ROSA twist such as The Happy Gilmore a Tommy’s style house Margarita – a custom ROSA Pale Ale, amongst others, on draught and a newly curated wine list of interesting serves.
Open for both lunch and dinner, with a dedicated children’s offering, the menu uses the finest local and seasonal dairy, meat, and charcuterie – sourcing from Cornish butchers James Kittow and Etheringtons, Fish for Thought (daily Cornish fresh fish), Ellis Wharton Wines and Sharp’s Brewery amongst others.
THE MINI-GOLF
The 18-hole course, which dates to the early 1960’s has undergone a substantial regeneration to totally reimagine the experience.
The course is something of a local landmark, very much part of the fabric of Newquay and was even once home to a handful of Blackfooted and Humboldt penguins!
Working with local landscapers Ember Landscapes, the entire site has been given a major facelift with entirely new matting and planting, creating a completely refreshed aesthetic.
Tom O’Brien, co-founder, and business manager of ROSA, says: “We’re stoked to reimagine this beloved Newquay location with a fresh new offering. ROSA is designed to bring people together, be that for a fun round of mini-golf on our smart new course or to settle-in for good food and drinks – be that a post-golf bite, date night, big drinks, or whole family occasions. We’re real foodies and serious about ingredients, big flavour, and simplicity. We think the food should do the talking, so you can be sure to sample a deliciously tasty menu offering something new, blending global flavours created using the best Cornish ingredients.”
ROSA is the second venture from the team behind the wildly popular HERD burger restaurant, which opened in the spring last year. Taking the north coast by storm, HERD become one of the hottest new openings in 2023, and even made the finals of the National Burger Awards just a few months after opening.
