Butcombe wins trio of golds at BBI competition

The brewing team at Butcombe Brewing Co has cause for celebration having scooped three Gold medals at this year’s prestigious British Bottlers’ Institute (BBI) Competition 2024. Impressed judges awarded Gold to Butcombe Brewing Co’s Butcombe Original, Rare Breed Pale Ale and Goram IPA Zero.

The competition, which has been running for nearly 70 years, is a blind tasting of canned and bottled drinks by a team of experienced judges and industry experts assembled by the BBI and attracts entries from all over the world.

Mike Jordan, Head Brewer says: “Wow, what a result! To receive Gold medals for all three entries is fantastic, especially against such stiff competition. Butcombe Original continues to grow in popularity and is now the South West’s favourite beer, Goram IPA Zero is a real favourite with a trophy cabinet to match and Rare Breed, our collaboration with Adam Henson, is an absolute winner. These Gold medals pay testament to the hard work and innovation of our excellent brewing team, who work tirelessly to create products our customers love.”

Founded in 1953, the fundamental object of the British Bottlers’ Institute is to provide a forum for companies working in the bottling, canning and beverage industry to pool experience and expertise.

BBI President, Ed Binsted said: “It is wonderful to see so many companies working hard to create so many high-quality drinks. By awarding these producers it is a testament to their dedication to their products and they should be proud of their accomplishment.”

All the judges agreed that the standard of the products entered in this year’s competition was higher than ever, mirroring consumer tastes for better quality drinks.
