Sandford Orchards launches no alcohol cider, Red Zero

Devon-based Sandford Orchards is thrilled to launch Red Zero, a refreshing non-alcoholic version of their award-winning Devon Red but 0.5% alcohol. Red Zero has been created by extracting the alcohol from real cider to create a delicious low alcohol alternative. It is available from www.sandfordorchards.co.uk as well as selected retail outlets and hospitality venues.

Barny Butterfield, Chief Cidermaker at Sandford Orchards comments: “We have wanted to create an alcohol-free cider for some time because we are keen to offer all the great taste of our fabulous cider to all drinkers, whatever the occasion. But, as you know, we like to do things properly at Sandford Orchards and we weren’t ready to compromise. We knew we weren’t prepared to make a dressed up soft-drink – which sadly many zero products are. We learned from the best, we thought that Guinness Zero was the most impressive of all the beer products, so adopted the same technology and used it on cider. As with Guinness – you’re drinking the real fermented drink with the alcohol filter extracted at 2 degrees. It may be the most expensive way to make it, but for quality, it’s on another level.”

Barny continues: “I’m really proud of the team and how hard they’ve worked to produce a cider with the same attention to detail as our flagship Devon Red. You can now drink the most fabulous cider imaginable, you get all the flavour but skip the alcohol – we’d call it alcohol-free cider, done right.”

Red Zero is an utterly delicious, crisp and fruity non-alcoholic cider created from fabulous apple varieties including Farmers Glory, Dabinett and Sweet Alford. Created using traditional cider methods, the alcohol is then removed to leave a moreish pint that you can happily drink more of.

Founded in 2002, independent, family-owned Sandford Orchards is based in Crediton, Mid Devon in the oldest working cider mill in the UK. The area has long been known as one of the most fertile parishes in all of Britain, both for its grazing and ability to grow apples. Crediton sits in the lee of the moors, so receives the right amount of rain and the right units of heat in summer.

Sandford Orchards takes a fresh, natural and low impact approach to producing cider. Combining tradition and innovation, Sandford Orchards produces an award-winning range of core session, traditional, fine and fruit ciders.
