The historic Bakers Arms in Broad Campden is celebrating a triumphant one-year anniversary under its new tenants. The Grade II listed pub, which marked its 300th year only last November, proves that the community’s love for good food and drink is far from dead.
After a brief closure in early 2024, the pub was brought back to life in late summer by a Broad Campden resident who bought the building. The property was then entrusted to The Relish Group and well-known local residents Stephen and Charlotte Gabb, who have meticulously restored the bar, renovated the dining areas and outside patio, and installed a brand new kitchen. The accommodation above the former Flowers Brewery pub has also been completely refurbished.
Stephen Gabb, one of the new owners, shared his delight, saying, “It has been a magnificent first year. The village has only about 100 residents, but the pub is right in the middle of various walks and footpaths. We’ve also had many visitors from across the county and from all over the world coming to see us.”
Gabb extended his gratitude to everyone who has supported the pub. “We want to say a big thank you to all that have supported us and continue to do so,” he said. “Nyetimber, our English sparkling wine, even gave us a case to celebrate the milestone. It is tough out there, and we are fortunate to be in the community we are in. The pub is so much more than somewhere to get drunk — it is a place for family, friends, couples, and anyone just wanting a chat after a long day. They are right when it is referred to as the hub of the community. Here’s to many more anniversaries.”
