On Tuesday 2 December 2025, the Devon Food Partnership and Prosper Business Support are hosting an essential event for food and drink businesses looking to make their operations more sustainable. The half-day session, People, Planet, Profit: Packaging and Waste Solutions, will take place from 10am to 2pm in Tiverton.
The event will explore practical ways for Devon’s food and drink producers to reduce waste, improve packaging practices, and navigate the changing landscape of waste management legislation. Attendees will gain fresh insights from local businesses already leading the way and discover how sustainable practices can also make good business sense.
The programme includes a line-up of local experts and business leaders sharing their experience, expertise, and practical tips:
- Stephanie Sáenz, Industrial & Commercial Bid Manager at Devon Contract Waste – will present The SME Sustainability Playbook: your packaging, your food waste, your obligations, covering what happens to waste, how to cut costs, and how to prepare for upcoming legislation.
- Sherry Durrant, Deputy Lead Food Standards Officer at Heart of the Southwest Trading Standards, will demystify Food labelling legislation and terminology — helping businesses understand what “local” and “healthy” really mean under the law.
- The Mid Devon Commercial Waste Team will unpack Food Waste Reduction and Simpler Recycling, offering guidance on practical improvements and local services.
- Local producers Charles Baughan (Westaways Sausages), Barney Butterfield (Sandford Orchards), and Hannah Hill (Solidus) will share first-hand experiences of tackling sustainability challenges in their own operations.
