Lyme Bay Winery has been awarded the highest possible grade, A+, in its 2025 BRCGS Food Safety audit, a milestone that places the Devon-based producer among the UK’s leading accredited food and drink manufacturers. Nestled in the rolling hills outside Axminster, the Devon-based winery crafts a diverse portfolio of English still and sparkling wines, fruit and country wines, mead, new sparkling meads, spirits and liqueurs.

The A+ grade demonstrates that every aspect of Lyme Bay Winery’s production meets the most rigorous international standards for food safety and quality. The BRCGS Food Safety Global Standard, the world’s most widely adopted food safety benchmark, is recognised across retail, manufacturing and food service supply chains.
Developed by retailers and applied by organisations worldwide, BRCGS Global Standards set the framework for best practice in Food Safety, Packaging Materials, Storage and Distribution, and Consumer Products. Accreditation provides assurance to customers and partners that products are produced safely, consistently and responsibly.
Achieving the A+ grade reflects years of sustained focus on quality and continuous improvement across Lyme Bay Winery. Technical Manager, Tzarina Sy and Quality Supervisor, Philip Hook have played pivotal roles, working closely with teams across the business to improve processes and strengthen compliance. Auditors praised the winery for exceptional documentation, exemplary hygiene standards, comprehensive internal audits, effective corrective actions, thorough product testing and robust traceability systems covering both warehousing and sales operations.
Tzarina Sy, comments: “This grade reflects the commitment and collaboration of our team. At the winery, we put food safety and quality at the heart of everything we do and our team lives that commitment every day.”

The certification adds to an expanding list of accolades for Lyme Bay Winery’s award-winning wines, meads, spirits and liqueurs. The producer continues to earn national and international recognition, including multiple gold medals and trophies at the International Wine Challenge where they were the first English producer to win the IWC National Trophies for the best English White Wine and best English Red Wine as well as IWC Varietal Trophies for the same two wines, in addition to honours from the Decanter World Wine Awards, WineGB Awards and Taste of the West.
For Lyme Bay Winery, the A+ grade signifies more than compliance. It reflects a culture defined by people, passion and precision, where every bottle is crafted from high-quality ingredients sourced from leading vineyards and handled with meticulous care in a fully accredited A+ BRCGS facility.
Wolf Sieg-Hogg, Managing Director at Lyme Bay Winery further comments: “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together. Our team’s commitment, energy and passion inspire me every day, and we remain committed to continuous improvement wherever it counts.”
Lyme Bay’s success is not only the product of decades of expertise but a celebration of the people behind the wines, whose tireless work ensures that quality and safety are never compromised.
BRCGS began in 1996 when the British Retail Consortium (BRC) in response to industry needs, developed the BRC Food Technical Standard, first published in 1998. There are now over 28,000 certificated suppliers in over 130 countries, and a network of more than 90 accredited and BRCGS-recognised certification bodies.
