St Austell Brewery is continuing its investment in the South West’s hospitality scene, with the reopening of two much-loved pubs – each brought back to life with careful refurbishment and a strong focus on community.
In Lynton – North Devon, The Crown reopened its doors on 2nd April following a considered restoration that blends historic charm with a refreshed, contemporary feel.

Operated by experienced publican Roger Payne, who also runs The Blue Ball Inn and The Griffin Inn, the revitalised pub now features 10 restored bedrooms alongside five new superior and deluxe rooms.
The refurbishment has been deliberately sympathetic, preserving key features including a collection of iconic artwork by Mick Cawston, ensuring the pub retains its deep-rooted connection to the local community.
Food sits firmly at the heart of the new offer, with a field-to-fork approach championing local produce. Guests can enjoy relaxed dining in the redesigned restaurant and lounge, or head to the terrace for cocktails and indulgent treats – including the pub’s signature knickerbocker glories. With its location close to Exmoor and Lynton’s famous cliff railway, The Crown is set to welcome locals, walkers and visitors alike.

Meanwhile in Cornwall, The Weavers Inn has also reopened, ushering in a new chapter under the leadership of experienced operator Annie Rafiqi and her family.
The pub has undergone a sensitive refurbishment, introducing a traditional timber bar, heritage-inspired interiors and warm, rustic tones, all designed to enhance its character while giving it a fresh new look.
Annie, who brings over a decade of hospitality experience, has relocated to Bodmin with her family to run the pub, with a clear vision to re-establish it as a vibrant community hub. Plans include live music, karaoke, a relaxed Sunday live lounge atmosphere and enhanced games facilities, alongside the return of live sport.
With a strong passion for wet-led pubs and community spirit, Annie and her team are focused on creating an inclusive, lively space where people can come together – with food offerings set to follow in the future.
These two reopenings highlight St Austell Brewery’s ongoing commitment to preserving the character of historic pubs while supporting passionate operators to bring fresh energy and ideas to their communities.
As the independent, family-owned business celebrates its 175th anniversary, its continued investment across Devon and Cornwall ensures that great pubs remain at the heart of local life – combining heritage, hospitality and a renewed sense of place for years to come.
