Small innovation, big impact? Cornwall firm targets everyday hospitality challenge

A Cornwall company is hoping to make life a little easier for front-of-house teams with the launch of a new product designed to help staff carry hot plates safely from kitchen to table.

Developed and designed in Bodmin by Flory’s, HotHolders is a slimline insulated plate holder intended to reduce the need for cloths, napkins and other makeshift solutions often used by serving staff when handling hot crockery.

The launch comes at a time when hospitality operators continue to look for practical ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance the customer experience. While often overlooked, plate service remains one of the everyday challenges facing front-of-house teams, particularly in busy restaurants where dishes need to reach customers at the correct temperature without compromising safety or presentation.

HotHolders has been developed to allow staff to carry piping hot plates comfortably while maintaining a professional appearance. The insulated design helps protect hands from heat while also reducing the risk of thumbprints on plate rims, an issue familiar to many hospitality businesses striving for consistently high presentation standards.

The company says the product could also help operators cut laundry costs by reducing reliance on cloths and napkins used specifically for handling hot plates. In addition, the wipe-clean silicone construction is dishwasher safe, making it easy to maintain and suitable for both hot and cold service.

As labour, utility and operating costs continue to rise across the sector, products that offer small improvements to efficiency can play an important role in day-to-day operations. Hospitality businesses are increasingly seeking equipment and service innovations that not only improve staff wellbeing and hygiene standards, but also contribute to reducing waste and ongoing operational expenses.

Designed and manufactured with practical service environments in mind, HotHolders aims to provide an affordable solution for restaurants, cafés, hotels and hospitality venues looking to streamline service without significant investment.

More information, including a demonstration video of the product in use, is available at HotHolders.co.uk
