The Bees Knees pub is celebrating National Burger Day by creating, what they believe to be Cirencester’s biggest ever burger.

The Pig Mac 2: Return of the Mac, is the creation of chef and business owner – Neil Johnson. It consists of two beef patties, one containing oozing blue cheese, pulled pork, smoked cheese, streaky bacon topped with macaroni cheese and pickles. It will be on sale at the pub from National Burger Day, August 24, for one week.
Neil, a long time Cotswolds chef and BBQ expert took over the Arkells Brewery pub in May, and runs the Cheeky Swine Smokehouse and Grill from the premises. All produce is smoked in the three big smokers on site, in the smoke shack out back of the pub and all rubs and sauces are made in house.
The Pig Mac 2: Return of the Mac, is just one of Neil’s mammoth creations, also on the menu can be found the fearful, Smokehouse Stack. “We have The Pig Mac on the menu, this is like its scary brother,” Neil explained. “I am not going to say it would be challenge to finish it but you would need to be very hungry to take it on.”
The burger was created at the 1885 Erie County Fair in Hamburg, New York, brothers Frank and Charles Menches — who were running a traveling concession stand ran out of pork sausages and started putting ground-up beef on their sandwiches, creating a burger. In the same year at the Seymour Fair in Wisconsin, 15-year-old Charlie Nagreen squashed beef meatballs between slices of bread so that people could eat the sandwich easily while walking.
